Get PRÊTE With.....Miss California USA Contestant Candice Cruz
Candice Cruz is a beauty queen that wears many crowns. Actress, host and producer being just a few of them. But in a few weeks time, she will be taking to the stage to compete in the Miss California USA Pageant: an event for her that was years in the making.
Competing in pageants is an opportunity for the contestants to show off both their inner and outer beauty. So it makes sense that the pageant's slogan is "Confidently Beautiful".
But what does the beauty and self-care routine of a pageant contestant look like? We caught up with Candice last week and she let us in on all her secrets.
So, what is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
I’m such a social person and I always want to be “in the know” (let’s just say I have ultimate FOMO;)) so I pull up my Instagram and Facebook to keep up to date with all of my friends, family and the latest news.
What does your morning beauty routine look like? How long does it take?
I love to take my time in the morning, I am normally constantly on the go during the day, so I like to really prepare myself mentally and physically. I always like to get a good sweat going early in the AM to clear my head and take care of my body, whether that’s taking Bar Method, doing my own workout or working with my trainer. After that I come home and immediately hop in a nice hot shower using all of my favorite products and lather myself with an aloe or cocoa lotion right after drying off. I put on all of my organic toners and moisturizers and make myself a SkinnyFit Tea.
I drink my tea while I do my makeup which typically consists of me using Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation, baking under the eye with AirSpun loose translucent powder (this is ‘Grandma’ stuff, but I swear it is the BEST stuff I have ever used. I always use it for pageants!), applying my Tarte eyeshadow, touching up my brows (freshly threaded from THREAD on Melrose Ave.) with Anastasia Brow Kit, contouring my face, putting on Becca Champagne Pop highlighter and blending it all in. I finish my look with my Urban Decay Perversion Mascara and one of my matte lipcolors or simple Bert’s Bees chapstick if I’m going for a more simply everyday look.
Once my face is complete I will finish blowing out my hair using a paddle brush and then curl my hair (my hair is the easiest thing to do, it’s just time consuming! I have a LOT of long brown hair).
All of the above takes about 2 ½ hours! ;)
Tell us three makeup products you can't live without?
TARTE everything, setting powder and my favorite seasonal perfume.
What's the most expensive beauty purchase you ever made?
Dior Airflash Foundation.......obsessed!
Your favorite natural beauty product or remedy?
I am obsessed with all of Aveno’s Organic All-Natural Face products and Alba Botanica Hibiscus Toner. I also always have to have Mario Badescu’s Rose Water Spray.
Is there a skincare item you re-buy over and over? Why?
Lotion, lotion, lotion. I try new lotions every month to spice it up, but this is the one product I can’t live without. I am always complemented on how soft my skin is and that’s the trick!
Tell us your favorite Haircare product?
I typically rotate out my shampoo and conditioner (and only wash my hair every other day) but I always go back to Dove or Frederic Fekkai.
Brows, Lips or lashes?
The best beauty tip you were ever given?
Stay Hydrated! Your skin will always be glowing.
Sleep in your makeup?
I do…sometimes 😝
