R & Co Is Going Vegan...and Launching 4 New Products
Attention vegan hair-lovers: one of our all-time favorite brands is going fully vegan...and we got the full scoop.
"R & Co transitioning into a fully vegan brand in 2018 aligns perfectly with the brand's identity," the company said in its announcement. CONTROL Flexible Paste is the last vegetarian product in the R+Co lineup that will be transitioning to vegan in 2018.
"As a brand, we are determined to develop haircare that gives great results without using animal products. We are passionate about being on the opposing side of what is happening in our world today with the mistreatment of animals. The time is now to educate people that haircare without animal products does give amazing results," the brand told me.
It only took a few ingredient swaps for the brand to achieve this major milestone—they worked to remove animal-derived ingredients beeswax, lanolin, and silk protein. "Our intention was for all of our product offerings to be a vegan," the company said of its beginnings, "however, we also wanted to ensure that our products provide superior performance. For a small number of our products, we were hard-pressed to find vegan ingredients that would offer the attributes that we were looking for and opted to compromise with them being vegetarian. We are proud to say that now the entire line is vegan. Through the collaborative efforts of our product development team and formulating chemists, we have found viable replacements for animal-derived raw materials that still deliver on performance."
Now onto those new products—which are indeed, totally vegan. The brand's introduced a new shampoo & conditioner, cheekily called Television for its screen-worthy results.
Television gives hair everything it needs: body, shine, strength, and softness without weighing it down. Juniper berry extract helps maintain the scalp's oil balance without stripping it and detoxifies hair's follicles and soaks up impurities, while Glycerin, a humectant, which means its helps hair retain moisture.
Acid Wash is an apple cider vinegar rinse.
Blowout addicts—take note. As you likely rely on a hearty amount of dry shampoo to extend your fab blowouts, this is the kind of product you might want to add to your lineup. You simply use the pointed bottle tip to distribute product directly on the scalp and massage it in. The result is a deeper cleanse than shampoo can provide which really gets out product build-up and softens hair without stripping its color.
Finally, there's Dart, an adorable, portable pomade stick.
Toss it in your bag and use it to tame flyaways, and create long-lasting texture and shapes.
Congrats, R & Co on making the vegan leap!
