This Must-Know Brand Wants To Make Sure Your Roots NEVER Show

Hair color—where to begin? Changing one's color is one of the easiest ways to change one's look—bar none. Call us dramatic, but in some cases, to change one's color is to change one's life. The problem, of course? The maintenence—and the expense. A number of innovations exist to try to help us extend time between those lengthy and costly salon sessions, but for Chelsea Scott, founder of TRUHAIR, none was quite to her liking.

The story of her brand is a good one—(if you look at brand origin stories, after all, the best products often come out of a need in the founder's own life). Scott spent time working in beauty manufacturing as a teenager after running out of money for a flight home while living (and falling in love with) Italy. When she got home, she continued work in the world of product development, until she got the idea for TRUHAIR. "I was driving to a big event and rushing to get ready. I got in the car, looked in the rear-view mirror, and to my surprise—grey hair!" she recounts. "I stopped at a local beauty supply store and found this waxy stick to color the grey quickly. Problem was halfway through the event I had waxy color running down my forehead," she says. But then, this very beauty faux pas became her lightbulb moment.

"I went to work to create a product that could easily and very quickly be applied, even in the car, that would resist sweating and would mimic the look of real hair. That’s how my first product,  came to be," she explains. The result is Color & Lift, which uses a proprietary blend of Vitamin E and mica to cover greys without looking, well, obvious—or worse, not like hair at all. The power brush makes it portable.

In fact, Scott is so laser-focused on the root coverage issue that 3 of her 7 products pertain to the original Color & Lift line—there's the original, the refill, the and the to-go version. The to-go version was inspired by eyeliners and lipliners—Scott calls it a liner for your strands. "We created the first 'hair liner' in response to our customers asking for an even more portable version of the classic. Color & Lift TO GO is a sponge-tip pen for filling in the hairline and concealing roots on the go. It’s great to throw in your purse. Men love it as well for their sideburns and beards," she says.

The next innovation was similarly user-driven: Revive & Style - Instant & Temporary Color Mousse: "We realized that while we had taken care of your roots, you could probably use help with your overall hair color between salon visits or when you color at home," Scott explains. "The mousse is created with a very innovative technology we discovered on a trip to Italy. It provides temporary color that instantly brightens and evens out your hair shade while also adding tons of volume. It’s a win-win!"

Ladies, you won't regret adding TRUHAIR to your regimen.
