Our Guide to Glowing Skin
Let’s face it when we look good we feel good and there’s no better feeling than waking up with glowing skin and confidently walking out of the house without an ounce of makeup. A lot can affect our skin like environmental factors, putting on makeup, talking on the phone, and knowing what your skin needs is key. All of these factors have a huge impact on the look and health of our skin!
HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE. Think of your skin like a sponge, it needs to be hydrated to be able to absorb the products that you put on your face. Without hydrating your skin you’re basically just putting product on your face for them to sit there. The best way to hydrate is to obviously drink water, and tons of it! We know it can be annoying to constantly carry around a water bottle. Hydrate, but make it fashion. Treat yourself to a BKR Water Bottle, they’re BPA-free glass bottles with tons of silicon cover options to match any look.
Add collagen supplements into your vitamin mix. Marine Collagen has tons of benefits for your skin. You’re never too young to combat the signs of aging and collagen is here to help. Not only does taking collagen fight against the signs of aging but it improves the overall texture and tone of skin. Taking collagen has never been more easy with Hum. You can just pop one of their Collagen Pops into your water, it makes your water taste like rose lemonade and has so many benefits. If you’re not into adding something extra to your water they have a Collagen Love vitamin too!
Keep it clean. This tip might seem obvious but it’s one of the most important ones; stop touching your face! If you have to touch your face make sure you’re washing your hands first especially before washing your face. Speaking of things touching your face, keep your phone as far away from your face as possible so you don’t transfer over dirt and oils that are on your phone. Basically everything you put on your face should be cleaned first and that especially goes for your makeup brushes. Makeup brushes are filled with old product, oils, and bacteria that you don’t want to apply to your skin with your makeup. Wash those brushes frequently!
Know your skin! Before picking products for your skin it’s important to know your skin type and what your skin needs so you can choose products based on your skincare concerns. Good things take time like finding the perfect skincare routine. Your skin thrives off of consistency so it’s important to find a routine that works for you and stick to it! These are our essential steps in our routine.
1. Start with the basics, washing your face! Wash your face with lukewarm water and use your fingertips to work the cleanser into your skin. Our favorite cleanser right now is Drunk Elephant’s Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser ,it’s free of oil, silicones, and fragrance so it won’t irritate your skin and you can even use it as a makeup remover.
2.After you’ve washed your face it’s time for toner. Toners are a crucial step because they rid your skin of excess oil and dirt from the day, wipe off any excess cleanser, and aid in bringing your skin back to its natural pH level so it can glow (not shine). Our favorite toner is Kopari’s Coconut Rose Toner, it’s great for all skin types, vegan, and alcohol free. The results of this toner are unreal it maintains redness, dryness, uneven skin tone, and breakouts. It’s literally formulated to return your skin to its natural pH level. How does it do it all?! It’s made with coconut extract, rose extract, and witch hazel. Don’t you love when you can actually pronounce the ingredients in your products?! Us too.
3.Serum’s aren’t necessary for everyone but if your skin needs some extra love because it’s dry or oily, serums can quickly become your best friend. Serums are basically a super lightweight moisturizer that dive deeper into your skin to ensure that your skin is soaking up these ingredients. Our favorite serum is OLEHENRIKSEN’S Truth Serum. It’s formulated with vitamin C and collagen so it brightens your skin while delivering hydration.
4. Don’t forget to moisturize! Moisturizing is crucial not only because it boosts hydration in your skin which is crucial for glowing skin, but it creates a protective layer on your skin. We’re loving Saturday Skin’s Featherweight Daily Moisturizing Cream!
4. Use protection! Sunscreen should be apart of your daily routine not just for your skin but for your overall health. There’s not a single product that’s more beneficial to your skin than SPF. There’s nothing worse than an oily sunscreen that leaves residue all day. Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen is a face sunscreen that’s water and sweat resistant, leaves no residue, and can even be used as a primer! This sunscreen really does it all, it’s formulated to not only protect you against the sun but blue light that we’re exposed to constantly on our phone and computer screens.
5. A totally necessary skincare practice you need to get on board with is exfoliating. Your skin goes through so much you need to purge your skin of dead skin cells to let your glowing complexion shine through. You should exfoliate once a week to ensure that your complexion is as clean as possible. A lot of exfoliators can actually clog your pores so picking the right one is the key to success. Our favorite exfoliating mask is Summer Fridays’ Overtime Mask. It’s formulated with vitamin A, K, and C and pumpkin to exfoliate and hydrate your skin. This mask is so gentle but the results are powerful. It gently polishes away dead skin cells and leaves you glowing. Follow this with their Jet Lag mask for healthy hydrated skin!
If you’re not into an exfoliating mask we recommend Glossier’s Solution, it’s a chemical exfoliation that unplugs dead skin cells that are clogging your pores to reveal smooth and glowing skin free of redness.
